« Happy Easter :: March 24th, 2005

I send my Easter greetings early because, for the next few days, I will be too busy to blog - too busy walking along the beach, swimming in the pool, catching up with relatives, and eating copious amounts of food.

And if you’re on the road this weekend - be bloody careful!

« Notice Anything Different? :: March 22nd, 2005

Josh moved me over from Movable Type to WordPress, and then tidied things up for me.

He also made that cute little kitten icon that should be in your address bar.

And changed the Kitten Cam photo. But I took the picture and was quite pleased with the way it came out.

Darcy is cute, isn’t he? He looks good surrounded by purple.

Josh is cute, too ;)

« The GNU Linux Test :: March 19th, 2005

I am completely unsurprised by my results:

The Windows User!

Congratulations! You scored 0!

I thought you said you used linux!? You either use windows and lied about it, or you use KDE for its windows-like appearance and you upgrade like my girlfriend!!!! May I suggest typing program names into the terminal? It’ll be a good start!

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 1% on Geekiness

« Sweet Dreams :: March 18th, 2005

As a girl growing up in the 80’s, I had a lot of choice when it came to girly fiction - Sweet Valley High, The Babysitter’s Club and Dolly Fiction, just to name a few.

But my favourite books were Sweet Dreams romances! Stories of good all-American girls who were in high school and went on dates with boys, and always ended up with the “right” boy in the end. They got good grades, were involved in extra-curricular activities, had weekend and summer jobs, and for the most part seemed to get along with their parents. On the weekends a boy would come and take them out to a movie, followed by pizza or ice-cream, and then he would drive her home and walk her to the front door and kiss her goodnight.

A few years ago I did some book reviewing for the youth section of the newspaper, and the books I was sent where a LOT different to those I read when I was in my pre-teen and teen years. These ones were heavy, tackling topics such as rape, murder, drinking and drugs. And SEX - they were all having sex, or at the very least wanting to have sex!

What happened to the innocence of those early teenage years? When did kids decide that going to a party, getting pissed, getting laid and throwing up was their idea of a good time? Where did the time go when holding hands during a movie and having a chaste kiss on the front porch at the end of the night was a big enough thrill?
