New Year’s Eve Musings :: December 31st, 2006

I haven’t popped yet, but I look (and feel!) like I’m about to explode. I’m very much at that “Get this baby out of me” stage and would like my body back. That is, not my figure, but my body - I would like to be able to wear shoes, stand for more than 5 minutes at a time, sit without needing to elevate my feet, eat properly, wipe my butt and dry my legs without striking a yoga contortion, lie down comfortably, pee at less regular intervals, kneel and bend and squat. Kthx.

Not that I’m unhappy - I’ve had very few mood swings and down times compared to most women. But I am terribly physically uncomfortable, and now that Christmas is over and Josh is on leave from work, I just want to meet my little one! I’m not known for my patience, hehehe. My body seems to be preparing as I’ve had lots of Braxton Hicks, some pain, upset stomach, lost part of my plug, and am nesting as much as my belly and feet will allow. I’ve taken to sleeping with a folded towel under my rear end just in case my waters happen to break in bed. Don’t want to ruin our mattress!

Christmas was tiring but nice. Couldn’t gorge on Christmas food like most years, but enjoyed the spread in moderation, and loved watching my niece and nephew open their presents. I got jewellery and books and dvd’s and chocolate and pieces for my dinner set and groovy purple drinking glasses and pasta bowls and pyjamas. We’ve had some very unseasonably cold weather, but that’s probably just as well in my current condition.

My friend Chris from England was here for a week and said he had a nice time, even though I couldn’t show him around and spent so much time resting and sleeping. We did play some fun games and I read some of the books he had brought with him.

One of the goldfish, Atlantis, died today. That’s sad :cry: I think we will get Neptune a new friend as he looks lonely in that tank all by himself.

Our next doctor’s appointment is on Tuesday and we should find out then how much bigger this baby has gotten and have some more information with which to make our decision regarding a C-section. Whatever happens, I just want it to happen soon - I want to be a Mum already!

We are having a very quiet night tonight, no doubt pondering the enormous changes about to occur in our lives. So many lasts are upon us, and firsts are about to begin. But bring it on - we’re ready :)

Happy New Year and love to you all!

36 Week Belly Pic & Update :: December 15th, 2006

I just spent the day at the hospital, on the labour ward! No, I didn’t have a baby. But I had a few fairly strong and painful contractions between 2am and 6am this morning, and when I rang the hospital to see what I should do (as they recommend should you experience contractions before 37 weeks) they wanted me to come in to be monitored and see what was going on.

Pics and Stuff :: December 10th, 2006

Yo dudes.

I’ve been a busy little beaver lately. Lots of Christmas wrapping and card writing and baby-related washing and bag packing and nursery-setting-upping and shopping and Christmas partying. Just had two nights out in a row with Christmas functions for Josh’s work, and though they were fun and the food was great and there were lots of laughs, I’m bloody buggered now!

I’m now 35 weeks pregnant, but still haven’t posted my 32 week belly picture - please find it under the cut, along with a picture of me before we left for the party last night. The theme was Hollywood but I didn’t dress up because I couldn’t think of any Hollywood stars who are currently 8 months pregnant so I just wore what fit. We certainly didn’t want to go as Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes - partly because I’m not taller than Josh, and partly because we don’t like Tom Cruise. And there was just no way I was going to cut the mustard as Angelina Jolie, plus Josh is way better looking than Brad Pitt.

We’ve only had a few really hot days here so far, which is a blessing for this basketball-bellied babe. Let’s hope the weather continues being kind to me. Please keep the Victorians in your thoughts and prayers - the bushfire situation down there is dire.

My canary is putting on a concert right now. I will have to tape him some day and put him on my LJ for you all to hear. He’s very cute.

Next Tuesday Mum travels down to NSW to spend a few days with my Grandma and then bring her back up here for Christmas - yay! My friend Chris from Scarborough in England is in Australia as I type and will come to stay with me in about 12 days. And my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew get into town on Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, I will finish up the last of my Christmas and baby preparations and then rest, rest, rest.
